Our 2024/25 Season


DIRECTOR

The director is the glue that holds the show together. You will be supervising the actors and directs the action in the production of a show.

To be considered, a director must complete this application thoroughly, and agree to the terms & conditions in the Director’s Guide.

Before being confirmed as a director of a Main Stage show at Cascades Theatrical Company, there will be a meeting between you and the Executive Director and a contract signed.


ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

The AD’s responsibilities may include facilitating the rehearsal process, taking notes, and facilitating the smooth running of the entire production process, and/or other duties as assigned


STAGE MANAGER

Stage managers provide practical and organizational support to the director, actors, designers, stage crew and technicians throughout the production process. They also are the director’s representative during performances, making sure that the production runs smoothly.


HEAD COSTUMER

Head Costumer is in charge of costumes for the production.

DirectorBring a creative vision of a script to life. Must keep communications open between production team, cast, and volunteer coordinator. Must also agree to be present and available throughout the process especially after the show closes (strike and any post-production housekeeping)
Production ManagerOversees the day to day. Sets deadlines for all aspects of production crew and coordinates these dates with the director and volunteer coordinator. Ensures that set building/painting is on schedule and to the pre-determined specifications agreed upon by both the director, designers, and builder/painters.
Assistant DirectorAssist director with any specific production aspects, liaison between director and production manager, keep cast and crew informed of important dates and deadlines. This job may be combined with other duties If necessary.
Stage ManagerDuring rehearsals, be on book for actors to call ‘line’ If needed, call actors if there is a no-show, bring out any rehearsal props/costumes and ensure they are put away after rehearsal, take line notes when actors are off book. When the show opens, run the show. Coordinate with house manager on when to start the show/come back from intermission etc. Be on headset throughout the show, call out times for actors and crew to stay on schedule, organize speed-thrus between weekends, fill out show reports to send after the show to the production crew/director, lock up the theatre after everyone has left.
Stage CrewCoordinate with stage manager for specific duties. Be on headset if available.

Set Designer
Design a creative but practical set for our stage. Coordinates with production manager and build crew. This job may be combined with other duties if necessary

Dramaturg
Researcher of the text and world of the play as well as previous production history (especially when and why it was written). This job may not be necessary for every show and can be combined with AD.
Works mainly with director and actors to ensure authenticity and clarity (may also work with set design/dresser, props, and costumes)

Build Team
Builders of the set. Coordinates with set designer and dresser. Will set up a deadline with volunteer coordinator and production manager when all changes must be made. After that deadline all changes to the set build are entirely made at the builder’s discretion

Paint Team
Painters of the set. Coordinates with set designer and dresser as well as build team. Will set up a deadline with volunteer coordinator and production manager when all changes must be made. After that deadline all changes to the set build are entirely made at the painter’s discretion

Properties Manager
Collect, find and purchase props for production. Keep records of any purchase to give to the Executive Director for reimbursement. Ensure that all props are set by deadline specified by production manager

Set Dresser
Dresses the set. Works with props manager and set designer (may be combined with this position) for vision of final product. Will also coordinate with paint and build teams in terms of specific colors and looks for sets. Will make a mockup of design to give to all production positions.

Lighting Designer
Work with director’s vision of what the lighting should be. Creatively design and set the lights in accordance with director’s wishes. All changes must be made prior to preview night, after that it is the lighting designer’s discretion to change any light cues.

Lighting Operator
May be combined with lighting designer. Operates the light board in accordance to the pre-determined design. Always on headset to communicate with stage manager for all aspects of the show. Follows lighting guidelines as outlined in pamphlet or by the volunteer coordinator

Costume Designer
Designs costumes that are appropriate to the director’s ultimate vision and with the world of the play. All designs and costumes must be finished with no alterations (besides basic wear and tear) by the Monday of tech week (this is for publicity photos) unless there is an extenuating circumstance.

Costume Crew
Assists in quick changes for actors during the run of the show. May also work with costume designer for other duties as needed

Sound Designer
May be combined with lighting designer. Designs a soundscape that coincides with the director’s vision as well as the world of the play. All sound choices (including pre-show and intermission music) must be decided by sound designer, with the director holding veto power if necessary.

Sound Operator
May be combined with sound designer. Operates the soundboard in accordance with the sound designer and director’s vision as well as in regards to proper sound board operation as outlined in pamphlet or by the volunteer coordinator

Choreographer
Choreographs the show’s dance numbers in cooperation with director’s ultimate vision.

Hair/Makeup
Works with actors and director to decide on the look of the character.
May only be used periodically prior to opening in order to teach cast how to do it themselves; at their hair/makeup person’s discretion.

Set Strike Manager
Works with build crew and production manager of upcoming show to see what is necessary to put away or tear down. Sets up a kind of job list which needs to be done and can assign people to certain tasks to ensure that strike runs smoothly and everyone is doing something.
