It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. With a little help from a feisty flower, blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant “asses” are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. The mischievous magic of moviedom sparkles in this hilarious comic romp.

In the 1930s, the talkies discovered Shakespeare in a big way. Four significant movies based on Shakespeare were made within a span of four years: The Taming of the Shrew, starring Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, As You Like It, starring Lawrence Olivier and Elizabeth Bergner, Romeo and Juliet, starring Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer, and the subject of this play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Max Reinhardt in which the original Oberon and his sidekick Puck find themselves not only on the Warner Brothers soundstage where the movie is being filmed, but they have been cast to play themselves!
I have had a blast working with this outstanding cast and my being given the opportunity to bring our audiences an evening of laughter.
“Lead on Macduff!”
Charlie Thiel
Charlie’s addiction to theatre continues to grow. He’s had the fun of playing a pirate, a professional wrestler, a cross dressing mermaid, a British nanny, a butler, and lots of others. You may have last seen Ed in “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” but if not, that’s OK. You’re seeing him now…so enjoy the show!!!
