Howard Huskey

Howard Huskey is the Executive Director of Cascades Theatrical Company, a non-profit organization that owns and manages Cascades Theatre, the oldest performing arts community theatre in Central Oregon.  From its inception in 1978, Cascades Theatre laid the foundation for the performing arts and theater groups performing in the region today.

In 2017, Huskey was hired for his financial expertise and business acumen.  “We’re going to lose the theatre if we don’t get help,” a board member disclosed to him.   “I told them I didn’t have any experience in running a theatre but I knew about managing money and managing people.”

In less than three years, Huskey turned the theatre’s financial struggle into a financial success.   Under Howard’s leadership, Cascades Theatrical Company:

  • Doubled its operating budget
  • increased income by 300%
  • increased attendance by 40%
  • saw membership income increase 45%
  • rebuilt the interior of the theatre for safety
  • remodeled the theatre lobby, bathroom, and stage
  • and created a 9-month reserve

Howard’s diverse business experience was the perfect fit to turn the failing theatre around.

“There is a learning curve to running a theater but the success of any business stems from the leadership ability to manage both people and money.”  People working with him appreciate that he is direct and straight forward, a fast decision maker, honest and a great listener.

“It’s not just about saving the theatre’s financial future but giving back to the community.  Cascades Theatrical Company has expanded the teen program to provide the community youth with opportunities to participate tuition-free in theatre productions and performing arts classes.”  Cascades Teen Theatre, established 2020, is open to all teens who want to learn about theatre production, film arts, music, dance, and storytelling.

His other desire is to continue producing the highest quality classical plays that audiences have come to love and expect from Cascades Theatrical Company.  He encourages anyone who wants to be a part of the theatre to come and participate and to get involved.  “I want people to feel that that the theatre can be a second home.  That we are family.”

“The thing I love most is seeing our patrons and the smiles on their faces when they come to the theatre and enjoy a play.  Nothing makes me happier.”   When Howard is not working, he loves to hike the many trails in Central Oregon and kayak when the weather is good.  He is most proud of his children who have grown up to be caring, loving, successful adults.
